Unsecured loans have a number of pros and cons. Since the borrower is not entitled to collateral security he is not at the risk of losing any personal property. The major disadvantage of these loans is the high interest rate which is always higher than that of secured.

Many people do not wish to pledge an asset as collateral in order to obtain loan. These people may be people with poor credit and may not have a good credit rating. These people do not have assets to secure against a loan. But at the same time these people are in urgent need of cash and need financial help urgently. People may suffer from bad credit due to missed payments or defaults in payment.

There are many people who wish to obtain students loans for higher studies but are stopped from because they do not have assets to pledge as collateral. Unsecured loans are those advances which are given by the lender on the credit rating and creditworthiness of the borrower. Here, the borrower is not needed to pledge his assets as collateral security. He guarantees to pay back the advance without any defaults in payment. The financial hazard involved in granting unsecured loans is pretty high. Hence it is required that the lender does his full study on the borrower before granting him a loan. The creditor cannot take over ownership any assets of the borrower in case of his default payments or bankruptcy.

Due to the high attachment of monetary risk the lender must have full information regarding the credit rating of the borrower and also have full knowledge regarding his previous loan repayments. In an unfortunate case of bankruptcy the creditors have no claim at all over the assets of the borrower. Therefore, a full inspection of the borrower must be to ensure his credit worth. These loans carry a very high rate of interest and have strict repayment procedures. If the borrower defaults in payments or misses his payment date, the credit image is tarnished. Hence these loans are a great way of improving credit score of all those people who suffer from bad credit.

One of the biggest ‘holidays of a lifetime’ for many people has got to be trekking in the Amazon rainforest. Just the thought of it is enough to send a world of exotic images spiralling into your mind: the verdant green of the trees, the shrieks and calls of the monkeys and birds, the croak of frogs, the trickle of sweat as it glides down your back, the squelch of the soft ground beneath your boots…

The Amazon rainforest traverses a whopping nine countries, over an area one and a half times the size of the European Union, meaning the opportunity to trek terrain that varies enormously. Visitors to the area should prepare to navigate microclimates where it can vary from the very hot to pouring rain, with changing animal species that diversify with their environment – and what animals they are! Jaguars, monkeys, anacondas, frogs, parrots, dolphins, crocodiles and tarantulas are just a few among the thousands of different types of animal life that can be found within the depths of the Amazon’s tropical rainforest. This, combined with the amount of species of plants and trees, makes the area one of the most magnificent in the world. Trekking in the Amazon rainforest is something that challenges tourists, and becomes an experience they will never forget.

Unfortunately, the Amazon rainforest is under growing threat of deforestation caused by logging, cattle ranching, mining and more. Global climate change is also a significant threat to the rainforest. Many people are aware of the types of threats that put the future of the Amazon rainforest in jeopardy, but are we doing enough to help protect this precious land?

If we want this region to keep its stunning, world-renowned biodiversity intact for the future, then we’re going to have to work harder than ever to stop deforestation, lower carbon emissions and reduce the terrible effects of greenhouse gas emissions on the environment. It may be possible for us all to enjoy the wonders of the Amazon rainforest in our lifetimes, but what about the next generation, or the next? If you want to help ensure that this precious – and crucial – rainforest is looked after and protected, it’s time to look into what you can do to help the cause. After all, there’s only one Amazon rainforest – and once it’s gone, it’s gone.

While many people know that it’s important to save the rainforest – the Amazon being the largest – not everybody is entirely sure why. But taking action to save the rainforest really is one of the most important things we can do in our lifetime.

The Amazon rainforest is home to thousands of different plants, birds, insects and mammals – as well as around thirty million people for whom the rainforest is not just their home, but very often their livelihood. Though deforestation is, to a large extent, a result of global demand for commodities, there is a great deal of domestic responsibility for this as well.

The Amazon rainforest doesn’t just provide a home for the millions of people and animals living within its sanctuary. Each tree and plant within this sprawling rainforest contributes to the well-being of our planet. Every second of every day, trees and plants soak up un-breathable air and replace it with the oxygen necessary for us to survive. Rainforests help to regulate the climate, including temperature and rainfall. They also store a huge amount of carbon which, if released, would have dramatic consequences for climate change, which affects people all over the world. Indeed, the river that runs through the very centre of the Amazon rainforest relies just as much on the rainforest as the rainforest does it – and that’s the Amazon river, the largest river in the world. If the Amazon river depends on the rainforest in order to sustain the natural order of things, it would be naive for us to assume it’s not the same for us.

Because of the importance of the Amazon rainforest – to the world, not just to Latin America – many conservation groups are doing what they can in order to stop the deforestation that is destroying this precious ecosystem. There are many individuals and groups out there who are working their hardest to help not only protect the rainforest and the animals that live there, but also to support the people who depend on it. But if society continues in the way it’s currently moving – too little recycling, too much carbon emissions – then it may not be long before we end up waving goodbye to such crucial natural resources.

If you want to do your bit to help save the Amazon rainforest, there’s plenty to do! From donating to charities to getting involved with recycling, reducing your carbon footprint and encouraging others to do so too, you can help us take steps towards a better planet for everyone – now and in the future.

For thousands of years human societies have recycled their waste and many people still take care to save certain ‘waste’ items for recycling. These can include a wealth of different plastics, papers, cards and glasses, all of which we diligently clean and put out for the council to collect – but why exactly do we recycle and what’s so important about it?

Well, plenty of people know that the world we live in is one with resources that won’t last forever. What that means, of course, is that we have to do our best to reuse what we have instead of simply using everything on offer until it all runs out. It’s crucial that we stop wasting the Earth’s resources or we’ll end up living in an unliveable world. Not only will the resources we continually pump out of the planet run out, meaning no new products can be created, but the impact of production – that is, the carbon and other dangerous emissions we pump out into the environment – will continue to kill the planet, disturb its ecosystems and altogether destroy what was once a harmonious home for humans and the natural world. All around us, the effects of climate change can be seen: extreme weather events, a change in rainy seasons, drought, and so on – and if we don’t do something about it, the planet we end up with isn’t going to be the Earth we all know and love.

Recycling matters because reusing products and materials means less mining, less drilling, less deforestation and less emissions being spewed into the air we breathe. Recycling means we can put to use the planet’s resources the way they were intended to be used: over and over again, just as the Earth reuses its land and water in a harmonious fashion that has ensured the planet has remained liveable for millions and millions of years.

If you want to do something to help the planet, start recycling. Encourage your friends and family to recycle, and do what you can to educate your community about its benefits to a world that we all care about. In doing so, you’ll be helping to save the rainforest, purify our rivers, clean up the air and, eventually, save the planet. It really doesn’t take too much effort to start recycling, so start today and join the millions of others in the fight to save the Earth.

As more and more people become aware of the danger the planet’s rainforests are in, an increase in books about their plight and how to prevent further damage has been apparent on the shelves of book shops.

But not only are more books appearing that deal with how to help the rainforest, some books are actually helping directly by being rainforest-friendly in themselves. These books are produced by publishers who have taken an interest in making sure that the paper they use is not linked to deforestation, excessive greenhouse gas emissions or social conflicts.

These publishers were compiled in a list by the Rainforest Action Network, alongside several other publishers who did not make the grade, in a report to let consumers know which companies are doing the most to help protect the world’s forests. The list will certainly be of interest to anyone concerned with the plight of the rainforest, and will also hopefully raise awareness in an area of responsible consumption that many people might not have considered before. The publishers in the list are all publishers of children’s books as the list was released in order to coincide with when many people would be doing Christmas shopping – and books are a frequent gift for young children.

Companies cited as being more rainforest-friendly include Scholastic, Penguin Group USA, Candlewick Press, Macmillan, Simon & Schuster, Hachette Book Group and Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. These publishers are ones that offer products consumers can buy without having to worry about the impact of the book’s production on the environment. Other publishers, however, have given no indication that they have put any effort into ensuring their paper is sourced from ethical and sustainable producers, and the Rainforest Action Network has advised consumers to avoid them.

For those concerned with rainforest conservation, it would be a good idea to look up the list of rainforest-friendly publishers if you’re considering buying some books for the young ones in your life. That way, you can relax in the knowledge that not only are you doing your bit to improve the young minds around you, but you’re also doing something to help the rainforests. You can even let your recipient know that their gift is eco-friendly and put an even bigger smile on their face!

The Amazon River is the largest river in the world. In fact, it’s so large that the volume of water discharged from it every year is larger than the amount of the next ten largest rivers put together. And if that doesn’t impress you, perhaps the fact that the Amazon is responsible for around one fifth of the river flow in the entire world might.

This awe-inspiring river is so big that it is sometimes referred to as ‘The River Sea’ thanks to its incredible dimensions. And while it may just fall short of the River Nile in terms of length, the Amazon more than makes up for it in width. During the rainy season, the river’s width stretches as wide as a whopping thirty miles, and even in the dry season it can still reach as far as six miles in some places. Given the sheer volume of water travelling across the river floor every day, it really isn’t any wonder that the Amazon is surrounded by lush, verdant rainforest that plays home to millions of animals and plants. It is also home to over 30 million people that live in the Amazon.

Unfortunately, as much as the Amazon aids the circle of life in the rainforest, this world of incredible jungle terrain and fascinating endemic species is still at risk. Deforestation – largely driven by growing global demand for commodities like timber and beef – is leaving the entire rainforest in jeopardy. The natural ecosystem of the Amazon rainforest has been compromised because of the continual slaying of trees in favour of taking the wood and using the land to grow crops and create pasture for the beef industry – and that’s before we even get to the fact that deforestation is responsible for a massive percentage of the total greenhouse gases being emitted into our atmosphere right now.

Continued deforestation could stifle the area’s ability to regulate the planet’s climate. If we continue to cut down trees and destroy the land, climate change is arguably only going to get worse. Without the rainforest, everything could suffer: rainfall patterns may change and affect the Amazon river, as well as much of Latin America and beyond. The rainforest is lived in by 30 million people, as well as millions of plants and animals and will be less able to provide shelter and food. And the effect on the planet will get possibly get worse as the process continues.

Rainforest deforestation needs to stop – and if you want to see what you can do to help, it’s time to get online and start offering your support to the many people out there who want to do something.

This year has marked the second year in a decade that a drought has stricken the Amazon river, with some of the world’s largest river’s tributaries drying up completely. In fact, this year has marked the second drought in five years for this enormous rainforest – which is a far cry from the usual drought which should normally happen no more than a few times a century.

The drought has meant that many people living on and around the river have seen their way of life dry up as the waters recede, leaving behind only cracked, thirsty dirt as evidence of an extremely long and dry season. And the people and animals aren’t the only ones affected by the change – the rainforest itself is experiencing the difficulties from a lack of water which can result in an increased risk of fire and crop losses. The Amazon rainforest is getting thirsty, and the effects of further droughts in coming years could be devastating.

The drought, which was at its worst during November of 2010, came just a month after horrific flooding in the area killed dozens of people and left thousands without a home – yet a further example of the extreme weather that has struck an otherwise stable region. Many locals have reported that it feels as if the sun is getting hotter and admitted that they are finding it harder and harder to cope and, with the impact that climate change is having around the world, this isn’t hard to believe.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t look as though the swing of flooding and drought is going to stop. Predictions include years-long flooding that affects not only people and animals that depend on the Amazon river’s water to survive, but trees and plants too. This would lead to the destruction of vital shelter and food supplies, and put a further strain on the rainforest’s ability to sustain itself.

This year saw less than half of the usual rainfall dispersed over the Amazon rainforest – what could the future hold? For those living in and around the rainforest – and, indeed, the rest of the world – the news could be very bad if society does not change the way it deals with climate change and starts working harder than ever to conserve both the rainforest and the environment as a whole. People all over the world depend on the Amazon rainforest for the many vital environmental services it provides such as cooling the whole planet and balancing climatic aspects like rainfall and fresh water production. Future effects of climate changes and further deforestation will cut this important lifeline.

Why is recycling important?

According to the Environmental Protection Agency, there is about 250 million tons of garbage produced in the United States each year. We can try to decrease this amount by recycling. Many materials can be reused and even though they may look like unnecessary pieces of garbage, they may be still useful when they are delivered to recycling centers. By recycling we can save natural resources (such as water, timber and minerals) in order to save the land from being polluted by garbage dumps, as well as reduce contamination of water and air.

What and how to recycle?

If you want to live environmentally friendly, you should recycle: newspapers, glass, metal objects, and plastics. Most of the garbage that can be recycled will be collected from your home, but sometimes you may have to visit one of many recycling centers on your own. If you have some appliances or electronics to recycle, you should find a drop-off spot in your area. Some things can be sold at buy-back recycling centers – for example a car or metal products. If you have toxic or hazardous materials, you should dispose of them in their designated places.

Some facts and figures

According to EPA, U.S. citizens managed to recycle 83 million tons garbage in 2008 which gives a recycle rate of 33%. This is a good score; however some European countries manage to recycle up to 60% of their waste. What is important, it gave a reduction of 182 million metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions. The best results can be seen in case of recovery of auto batteries (99%), office-type paper (72%) and steel cans (63%).

To sum things up, recycling is necessary if we want to save our planet for future generations. It helps not only to decrease the amount of waste that surrounds us, but also to preserve some natural resources and reduce the pollution of soil, water and air. If you want to support the idea of recycling, you should not only sort your garbage and return it to recycling centers, but also purchase products made of recycled materials.
