The finance amount made available is of a good range. The lender does not conduct credit verification procedures. The loan application proceedings are simple and less time consuming.

This form of fiscal assistance is a reliable source in its own ways. They also carry flexible repayments periods. So, even if the borrower cannot repay the loan amount by the date of maturity there is a possibility of extending the term. This however tags along an additional fee. Being small term in nature they do carry a gigantic rate of interest.

They are a total risk free affair for the borrower. It is very important to assure the lender of your repaying ability. They are also provided to the ones who have a bad credit score. Once the loan application form is filed in the lender verifies the form details and credits the customers account within a short span of 24 hours. Unsecured loans have a number of pros and cons. Since the borrower is not entitled to collateral security he is not at the risk of losing any personal property. The major disadvantage of these loans is the high interest rate which is always higher than that of secured.

Many people do not wish to pledge an asset as collateral in order to obtain loan. These people may be people with poor credit and may not have a good credit rating. These people do not have assets to secure against a loan. But at the same time these people are in urgent need of cash and need financial help urgently. People may suffer from bad credit due to missed payments or defaults in payment.

There are many people who wish to obtain students loans for higher studies but are stopped from because they do not have assets to pledge as collateral. Unsecured loans are those advances which are given by the lender on the credit rating and creditworthiness of the borrower. Here, the borrower is not needed to pledge his assets as collateral security. He guarantees to pay back the advance without any defaults in payment. The financial hazard involved in granting unsecured loans is pretty high. Hence it is required that the lender does his full study on the borrower before granting him a loan. The creditor cannot take over ownership any assets of the borrower in case of his default payments or bankruptcy.

Due to the high attachment of monetary risk the lender must have full information regarding the credit rating of the borrower and also have full knowledge regarding his previous loan repayments. In an unfortunate case of bankruptcy the creditors have no claim at all over the assets of the borrower. Therefore, a full inspection of the borrower must be to ensure his credit worth. These loans carry a very high rate of interest and have strict repayment procedures. If the borrower defaults in payments or misses his payment date, the credit image is tarnished. Hence these loans are a great way of improving credit score of all those people who suffer from bad credit.

Nicholas Thomas is an experienced writer and holds a Master Degree In Business Administration. He is currently associated with Bad Credit Unsecured Personal Loans and offering his valuable suggestions on a huge range of financial products.

Basic Origins of Female Genital Mutilation

The World Health Organization defined female genital mutilation as “the partial or total removal of the external female genitalia or other injury to the female genital organs whether for altered cultural or other non-therapeutic reasons. The United Nations estimated that an average of four girls a minute are mutilated; everyday. Hopefully with increased knowledge, the protection of girls and women will move the number of mutilations to zero as they gain knowledge and organization. By force, Female Genital Mutilation became a custom in Northern Africa over the last 1000 years, and slightly more recently in western and southern Africa.

“The historical origin of this mutilation practice began in the early days of Roman and Islamic expansion. It was agreed upon by the two invading forces to train and force the conquered Africans to mutilate girls and women in order to add to the suppression factors against Africa’s Women, leadership character development, and family building. By nature, women and men are developed normally with all parts that should be there and working right. One of the threats was the death, or forbidance of marriage of all girls that did not receive the procedure. As many things This practice was for the most part abandoned in Islamic countries in recent centuries, but carried further in practice within European nations as part of male supremacist conceptions that only men should have pleasure from sex, and to prevent any personal pleasure without permission from a man.

As with many misinterpretation used by invaders using religion as their power base, the knowledge and practice of the Koran, was used as an aide to justify control over the physical abilities, presence, and personal habits of women. During the expansion of Islam, good Muslims recognized and abandoned this conception, while others continued the negative behaviors and action by integrating female genital mutilation as justifiably healthy for over 1000 years. During the time of this action, several other faiths inter-mixed the suppressive behavior against females into the traditional systems of life. Even though this was thought to be a good form of torture by European enslavers later in time, they did not want to damage the women in this way, so this was not forced to continue by enslaved Africans in the America’s or the islands like Jamaica. Gradually historical truth is spreading, and practice of this is fading out worldwide.

The Almoravids called a jihad (“holy war” in Arabic) on African family structures, targeted women from the early 200’s ad to very recently. European men now come to Africa to secretly rape or spend some money to trick very poor women into sex, then leave while the woman gives birth. This can now be seen all over Africa in many southern African West African and East African nations. African Women are not only victims of torture and mutilation by our own family members, but still victims of rape and humiliation from white and Asian men. To clear blame against Islam, there are many Muslim countries in which the mutilation is essentially unknown, including Iraq, Iran, Kuwait, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. In this since, the body of a woman may be better respected.
Present Situation

Over the years, some countries where Female Genital Mutilation have taken place have passed laws forbidding the procedure, especially on children. Some countries with laws banning mutilation include (Senegal, Egypt, Kenya, Djibouti, Togo, Ghana, Guinea, Burkina Faso, Sudan, France, Sweden, Canada, Uganda, New Zealand, the United States, and England). A law can be effective only if there is the belief of a crime being committed, a person or persons operate within the law, if the victim reports the crime, and law enforcement is done. Unfortunately, these laws are often ignored. We not only need to know our full history, we need to create better principles for living with and for each other.

These fault lines have been summarily been equated with the existence thin fissures and undercurrents in the financial world which have resulted in a tectonic shifts in the way business gets conducted worldwide.

Raghuraman G. Rajan is a Professor of Finance with the University Of Chicago Booth School Of Business and had also served as a chief economist at the IMF. In his book “Fault Lines”, he brings apt comparisons with the geological lines which caused much upheaval in the financial status of America and why the world gets affected by it. These are the Financial or Economic Fault Lines which caused the global financial crisis. In fact, Rajan was one of the few economists who had actually warned us about these mild tremors much before the larger financial quake hit all of us.

While the world is struggling to come out of the crisis, blames fall upon few irrational people who caused this meltdown to happen due to the huge risks they undertook leaving a global recession in its wake. Rajan tries to look beyond these few people who supposedly caused the crisis, to those economic policies which were the actual root cause of the problem – and they still persist. He points out that unless those are looked into we continue to sit on a financial volcano which is causing fissures in the global economic crust the shift of which will cause an even massive crisis!

The book focuses on the facts that caused the recent predicament. He basically points out that the crisis was a collective problem caused by a large number of individuals (officials of FIs, governments, politicians, regulators, and even ordinary citizens) who in their own manner were acting as per the flawed economic policies laid out. He mentions that the risk that these policies posed, were not aligned to the benefits one used to draw out of them. He goes deeper into the system to visit those fissures that threaten the economics of the world business order which is heavily dependent on the financial stability of the US.

The American wage structure took a beating and saw the wages getting stagnated between 2002 -2005. These led to making housing credits available easily for the citizens, raising the purchasing power parity and expectations while deepening the Fault Lines in an already fissured economic status – stagnant wages, lesser jobs, inequality in education and health policies etc.Fault Lines points at the deepening pressure on the US to bring the house in order. There are serious inequalities in education, health care, home owning laws – all of which give access to cheap and easy credits – and these policies (touching upon Fannie and Freddie Mae) need to be revisited to ensure more stability in the world economy. The ever widening gap between the rich and poor will continue to put pressure on the government to push easy credit into the market.Rajan tries to expose this system which does not offer a blanket social safety net over one and all; however,

We may have read many autobiographies of many celebrities, including businessmen; however, this particular one has the certain elements which really make a heart go “Wow…if he can do it, anyone can”! I am talking here about Captain G. R. Gopinath, the man behind India’s first low cost airline, who reached where he is today, with ultimate will power to following his dreams. Now wouldn’t that be cliché – follow your dreams, do the right thing, toil hard, be firm with your dreams, learn everyday – we may be hearing or reading them quite often in our lives. So what does this book have to offer to make it a good read!

In Simple terms – a Simple man’s, simple journey from his childhood to where he is today, having built the best in class low cost airline which had a catch word – Simplyfly!! Get inspired – read this book to get to know the man not only as the creator of Air Deccan , but also of several other successful projects in his life, his triumphs and travails. Not many first generation entrepreneurs have dabbled into farming – lost everything to floods, turned a barren land into an award winning silk worm production unit (he got the Rolex Award for it), enter politics and lose and election, and that too after having been an Army Officer and fought wars, and then create a revolution in Indian aviation.

‘Simply Fly” is a common man’s story from a village school to being counted among the top businessmen in India. His determination to own an airline which everyone and anyone could fly in took him from where he was to where he is today. It was to be the start of a no-frills airline, where costs were tightly monitored and enable millions of people to fly for the first time. Of course the journey was fraught with problems and he eventually had to sell the airline to Vijay Mallya. In fact he even shares the dialogue between him and Vijay Mallya as an anecdote – the book is actually littered with wonderful first hand anecdotes which also highlight the simplicity of Captain Gopinath. They are fun to read.

You will not find this as the usual management book, which tells you what to do and how to do to reach somewhere in life. In a sense, Simply fly is a true story of a common man’s life, the challenge any common man faces in his life, problems of poverty, losing everything to a flood, bureaucratic and political apathy etc. It is also a story on the rising up from the ground up with sheer determination every time he falls or fails in all types of adversities! This is where the difference in being a common man and a man among commons! I could safely say that it was he who created his own turf, opened a new market in India, making it possible to others to

Today Captain Gopinath runs Deccan 360, a logistics company and lives and works out of Bangalore. Read this book and be inspired.

I was told that Fatima Bhutto wrote this book when the alleged killers of her father were released from jail much ahead of their terms. So I thought this would mean the book is of full scale verbal war on those behind the murder of her father. Yes the bitterness pours in but in bits and pieces. However after having read the book…I think I was wrong for taking the word of the critic for granted. I think the book is a story of her father’s life and the way it has transpired for him- in front of her.

Fatima was all of 14 years old (1996) when her father, Murtaza, was killed by the police allegedly after a gun fight outside their home in Karachi. She uses that incident as a trigger to describe vividly the politics of Pakistan, which claimed the lives of 4 people in the Bhutto legacy. Being so young as she was during the death of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, there are some accounts of the political scenario though most of it is narrated as a second hand account (In fact where ever, you come across such a narrative in the book,it can be safe to assume Fatima’s absence during that event) Most of the accounts of her father are from near and dear friends, colleagues and large broods of people who had the opportunity to interact with Murtaza. In all, she adored Murtaza just like any other girl would her father. She is rather uncritical in her writings about him and shows him in an idealistic light.

The centrality of the book comes from the rivalry between a brother (Murtaza) and Sister (Benazir) which she has done open heartedly. She starts off with a mildly “love-my-aunt’ note which was a feeling which she possessed as a child for Benazir. However, then it increasingly becomes very critical about her, the distancing of Benazir from Murtaza and family, her ambitions making the relationship even bitter.

Fatima also looks critically at what caused Benazir to move out of favour in her family’s eyes. She mentions certain turning points in her life – one of which was her reconciliation with the Zia regime and participating in a democratic process led by him. This is what Murtaza opposed and eventually became the bone of contention. His aim was to keep the legacy of his father alive and maintain his ideals through his party. However, Murtaza’s exile from Pakistan between 1977 and 1993, allowed Benazir to build her grip on the party. There are several pointers to her marriage to Asif Ali Zardari, about whom Fatima is very cynical of and shows him as a greedy person in her prose.

Then comes the story which actually made this book…Murtaza’s “shoot-out” (read – murder) while Benazir was the PM. The darker side of this is the fact that the alleged shooters, who were jailed, were released when Zardari became President.Fatima now brings forth some critical pointers towards a conspiracy to kill her father, wherein she lays down some facts – such as no warrant for her father’s arrest, arrests of witness, destroyed evidence, release of suspects etc.

Songs of Blood and Sword is not a vindictive showpiece of Pakistan’s corrupt and treacherous political world but there are some grim realities of the same; it is more of a personal history from the eye of a young girl, who saw the world crumble before her eyes.A good read though the writing style of Fatima Bhutto is indeed very prose-like and captures her feelings on every narrative.

I was keenly anticipating this book from Frederick Forsyth after having read The Afghan sometime back, needless to say The Cobra did not disappoint. Of course being a prolific reader of books and specially fiction stories, I have developed a habit of becoming a new reader every time I read a book of an author with known ways of writing and I would advise the same to others too.

Forsyth revisits his favorite haunt the CIA for yet another ex-CIA operative adventure, this time to combat a much larger menace – the drug empires of South America, the largest “exporters” (read smugglers) of cocaine worldwide. This time the President of the US (not surprising as many such orders come from the Oval office it seems) the reclusive Cobra an ex CIA operative) is brought in to know whether the drug cartel can be destroyed.

Well, according to him, yes…only that he demanded a crack team of men, some of the best war machines and of course money – a lot of money !!

The Cobra now brings in his best skills to prepare for a covert war against the global Cartel leader Don Diego Esteban, who very vehemently proclaims his reach and ready global customer base of 500 tonnes of cocaine! So not only does the Cobra have to fight the actual producers of this drug and the drug lords of multiple countries, but also has to get hold or eliminate the resistance from among corrupt government officials in the various countries where Esteban’s cartel operates.

The flow of the story follows in preparatory trail in the initial half of the book, so you have the tendency to hurry through advisably… don’t unless you miss out small nuances of the covert game. The later half though gets pacier and takes the typical twists and turns a-la- Forsyth. One more thing to remember – there are many characters in the book, but then there is also a reference list of all those characters at one end of the book, just in case you may forget who that person is. The many sub plots in the story may lead to thought congestion, and that is why this list helps a lot to those who may not have a good memory!

The overdose of killing may get on to you specially when Diego Esteban starts an operation to kill all his henchmen and the gang wars to control all the cocaine that is left. For the ethically bound, killing of cocaine smugglers may seem okay – they deserve it – one may say. However, that is not how the story ends! The end is unexpected and very practical going by the global scenarios and the thought process of political setups!

For people who have read “Stay Hungry Stay Foolish”, Rashmi Bansal’s second book “Connect the Dots” is a take on the same set of concept – successful entrepreneurs – however this time she talks about all of 20 people who did not have a management degree, unlike the first one, where she talked about those who had a management degree (IIM-A) to be precise. Rashmi has divided her book into three classifications and they do a lot of good to the understanding – its Jugaad, Junoon and Zubaan!! So as the book unfolds, her stories about successful people fall into these categories for the type of business that they are into, and how they fell into it, their triumphs and travails, and blazes of glory!!

Jugaad in Hindi roughly means “innovative fix” and that is exactly what is found in 9 out of the 20 stories that fall into this category. Business is seen as a blend of experimentation, observation and then fixing the problems, plugging the holes and applying the mind! If there is a hindrance, apply your mind (and not rocket science), do an innovative fix to the obstacle and move on! So the “Jugaad” stories cover the this line of thought of all those 9 inspiring people who without any formal training in the field of business continued making fixes here and there, with a little application of mind and some spirituality, to become successful entrepreneurs.

Junoon or Passion based stories are a set of 7 people on who had a passion for an idea and went with a drive to fulfill that. These are people whose love for their dream made them pursue it. For an Example (and this is a personal favorite) the story of the making of the electric car Reva. Chetan Maini had or rather has, if I may correct myself, a passion for everything electronics and cars. He dreamt of an electric car and decided to pursue his dream. He followed his passion and went on to form the Reva Electric Car Company (very recently taken over by Mahindra & Mahindra) making it the world’s best selling electric car. The enterprise value of Reva is now over US$100 million!!

Zubaan here is an Expression or Language, much to do with creativity.Talent does pay is what these stories talk about; one needs the ability to convert the talent into a business proposition. One story in turn is very inspiring and we have seen a lot of his venture in recent reality shows on Indian television. Krishna Reddy and his Prince Dance Group, is a story of how a daily wage earner with an interest and passion for contemporary Dance brought together some more daily labourers to form his group, practised on the beaches on Orissa and appeared on the hotly competitive “India’s Got Talent” reality show. Their performance was truly mind-blowing having seen it myself and also voted for them! With the prize money they earned, he has now formed his own school of dancers who go around performing worldwide and inspiring young talent from the lower strata families!

Rashmi has brought together these real life stories to inspire and it really does. Now this is a challenge for all those who are not MBAs and those who are and aim to take up the course! In all, I would recommend that everybody reads it…the tale of these 20 ordinary people with extraordinary will to make be successful despite all odds, is truly inspiring.

Connect the Dots makes a very good business book.
